August 29 — September 11, 2026 · 14 DaysComplete 14-day itinerary across France, Switzerland & Italy
Our flight lands at Paris Orly airport in the afternoon. We'll hop on the Orlyval (a quick monorail) then the Metro to reach Le Marais — one of the oldest and most charming neighborhoods in Paris, full of winding cobblestone streets, boutiques, and incredible food.
A full day of iconic Paris. The Louvre is the world's largest art museum (home of the Mona Lisa). The Seine is the river that runs through the heart of Paris — we'll walk along its banks past bookstalls and bridges to reach Notre-Dame cathedral on its little island.
Montmartre is the hilltop neighborhood where artists like Picasso and Van Gogh lived — it still has a village feel with painters working in the square. The Sacré-Cœur is the white-domed church at the top with incredible city views. Then we'll hit the Champs-Élysées, Paris's most famous boulevard, ending at the Arc de Triomphe where you can climb to the rooftop for a 360° view.
Today we take the TGV — France's famous high-speed train that goes up to 200 mph — from Paris to Basel, Switzerland. Then a scenic Swiss train through green rolling hills to Lucerne, a storybook town on a crystal-clear lake surrounded by Alps. The Chapel Bridge is a 700-year-old wooden covered bridge right in the middle of town — it's the most photographed spot in Switzerland.
This is the big one! The "Golden Round Trip" is a famous loop that takes you up Mount Pilatus (7,000 ft) using four different types of transport: a scenic lake boat, the world's steepest cogwheel railway (it literally goes up at a 48° angle!), a cable car, and a gondola. You'll have lunch at the summit with a 360° view of the Swiss Alps stretching to the horizon.
The GoldenPass Express is a special panoramic train with floor-to-ceiling glass windows — it feels like riding through a screensaver. The route goes over the Brünig mountain pass through meadows, waterfalls, and tiny Swiss villages to Interlaken, a resort town sitting between two turquoise lakes with the massive Jungfrau mountain (13,600 ft) towering above.
We cross from Switzerland into Italy today! The train goes through the famous Gotthard Pass — one of Europe's most scenic Alpine routes — to Milan, then a little local train hugs the shore of Lake Como to Varenna. This tiny fishing village is our base for 3 nights: think pastel-colored houses clinging to a hillside, stone stairways draped in bougainvillea, and glassy lake water reflecting the mountains.
Bellagio is called the "Pearl of the Lake" — it sits right at the point where Lake Como splits into a Y-shape, so you get views in every direction. It's a quick 15-minute ferry ride from Varenna. In the late afternoon, we'll board a private classic wooden boat (like something out of a James Bond movie) for a 2-4 hour sunset cruise on the lake.
A slow, lazy day on the lake. Varenna has a tiny public beach (lido) right on the lake where you can swim in the clear Alpine water. In the afternoon, take the ferry across to Tremezzo to visit Villa Carlotta — a grand 18th-century villa with some of the most spectacular botanical gardens in Europe, right on the lakefront.
We take Italy's sleek Frecciarossa ("Red Arrow") high-speed train — it goes up to 186 mph and has comfy 1st class seats with welcome drinks. Florence is the birthplace of the Renaissance, where Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo worked. The Duomo is the massive cathedral in the center of town with Brunelleschi's famous red dome — you can climb 463 steps to the top for an unforgettable view. Ponte Vecchio is the medieval bridge lined with gold and jewelry shops.
The Uffizi is one of the greatest art museums in the world — it has Botticelli's "Birth of Venus" and works by Leonardo and Raphael. The Accademia has Michelangelo's David — the 17-foot marble statue that's probably the most famous sculpture ever made. End the day at Piazzale Michelangelo, a hillside terrace across the river with a panoramic sunset view over the entire city — bring a bottle of wine (or sparkling water!) and watch the Duomo glow golden.
A guided day trip through the Tuscan countryside to two medieval hilltop towns. San Gimignano is nicknamed the "Medieval Manhattan" because it still has 14 ancient stone towers rising above the town (originally there were 72!). It's also famous for having the world's best gelato (officially — the shop has won world championships). Siena is a larger medieval city built around the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, where they run the famous Palio horse race. The cathedral is absolutely jaw-dropping inside.
Another quick Frecciarossa ride and we're in Rome! The Colosseum is the 2,000-year-old amphitheater where gladiators fought — it held 50,000 spectators. Right next to it is the Roman Forum, the ancient city center with ruined temples and arches. In the evening, we'll cross the river to Trastevere — Rome's most atmospheric neighborhood with ivy-covered buildings, live music drifting out of trattorias, and a guided food tour where we'll eat our way through 5-6 stops of Roman street food.
Early morning departure from Rome. Our ITA Airways flight is nonstop from Rome's Fiumicino airport (FCO) straight to LAX — about 13 hours. We arrive in LA the same afternoon thanks to the time zone magic of flying west. One last espresso at the airport before we say arrivederci!
